Here’s what can be done if the root directory appears to be 100% or almost so and you can not see which files are big.

On Linux , you can easily mount the entire root partition (or any other partition) to another location on your file system, let’s use in this case /mnt, for example:

mount -o bind / /mnt


Now you can use a command to find large files [you choose the size] that are there and are no longer needed (with due care):

find / mnt -type f -size + 40000000c -exec ls -sh {} \;
